HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

About our Chapter

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.’s Tau Epsilon Sigma Chapter has been proudly serving the communities of High Point, Lexington, and Thomasville, North Carolina since its founding in 2021.

The chapter’s story began on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, when Brothers Marzettis A. O’Neal, Jr. and the Late Bro. Kevin L. Maxwell envisioned establishing a new Sigma chapter to serve High Point and surrounding areas. What started as a conversation quickly grew into a mission—to reconnect unaffiliated brothers and bring the presence of Phi Beta Sigma to Davidson County.

After careful planning and outreach, a charter was officially granted on July 25, 2021. The chapter’s charter members included Brothers Marzettis A. O’Neal, Jr., Kevin L. Maxwell, Edward Rashad Beard, Carlos O’Neal, Marzettis O’Neal, Sr., Thomas O’Neal, Damien Hammie, Orlando Perry, Courtney Owens, and Jamar Smith.

Rooted in Davidson County, the Tau Epsilon Sigma Chapter continues to serve as a vital extension of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., impacting High Point, Lexington, and Thomasville through Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.

Serving Our Communities with Dedication and Impact

The majority of our brothers reside in Upper Marlboro (24.8%), Bowie (23.9%), and Waldorf, where we’ve made meaningful contributions to local communities. We’ve worked alongside key leaders like Senator Alonzo Washington, Councilmembers Wala Blegay, Sydney Harrison, Ingrid Watson, and Mayor Keith Sydnor to deliver real results.

At Tau Epsilon Sigma, we believe service is ever-evolving. Our chapter stays responsive to community needs—partnering with local schools, nonprofits, and businesses to expand our reach and create lasting, positive change across Davidson County.

What Makes Tau EpsilonSigma Special?

We are a dynamic chapter of over 130 Sigma men, ranging in age from their 20s to 80s, with an average age of 48.8 years. More than half of our brothers hold advanced degrees, and nearly 40% have military service experience.

Our diverse expertise and commitment to service span across multiple industries, from business to education, healthcare, and beyond. With this blend of experience, passion, and influence, we are poised to make a lasting impact in every community we touch.

A TRUE BROTHERHOOD

About Phi Beta Sigma

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is a global organization built on a legacy of excellence. Its journey began on Friday, January 9, 1914, when the Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown founded the fraternity on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.

These visionary founders established a tradition of cultivating distinguished scholars dedicated to impacting society through the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. Over a century later, with more than 225,000 members initiated, Phi Beta Sigma stands as one of the oldest African American institutions in the nation. Its members have consistently been high achievers, trailblazers, and influential leaders.
