Education

Education has always been a core value of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., rooted in our belief that academic excellence is key to personal and community success. At the 1945 Conclave in St. Louis, Missouri, the Fraternity officially elevated Education to an International Program, further solidifying our commitment to learning and development.

This program provides support and resources to both collegiate and alumni members—efforts that ultimately extend into the communities we serve. Our work includes awarding scholarships, hosting college fairs, leading mentorship and tutoring initiatives, and organizing educational conferences at the local, state, and national levels.

Bigger & Better Business

The Bigger and Better Business initiative was the first national program established by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., officially launched during the Tenth Anniversary Conclave held in Philadelphia in December 1924. From the beginning, this program has focused on uplifting and advancing Black-owned businesses.

Its original purpose was to inspire Black entrepreneurs to strengthen their operations, enhance their customer service, and become more competitive in the broader marketplace. This mission remains central today, as the program continues to promote economic empowerment and entrepreneurial excellence within our communities.

Social Action

Since its establishment in 1934 by Brother Elmo M. Anderson, the Social Action program has focused on uplifting underserved communities and improving quality of life for those in need. This initiative continues to empower Phi Beta Sigma members to take an active role in driving change—socially, politically, and philanthropically.

The mission of the International Social Action Program is carried out by educating members on key health issues that impact them and their families, building pride and presence through consistent and meaningful community service, raising awareness around civic and legislative matters that affect our communities, supporting like-minded organizations through fundraising and collaboration, and promoting healthy lifestyles through education and preventive care. Through this work, we aim to strengthen both our Brotherhood and the communities we serve.
